About Curly Girl

Latest natural curly hair styleIn 2004, I decided to get off my chemical dependency on relaxers and rock the natural curly hairstyles I always admired from a distance. That meant starting completely from scratch. After a year of hiding my hair under weaves, wigs and braids, I finally made the big chop (which left me with about 6 inches of hair). I wish that blogging had been more popular or I had been less ignorant about the power of the web because I made a lot of hair mistakes due to my lack of knowledge of natural hair care and natural hair care products. You name it, I probably did it. From blow drying my hair without properly protecting it to flat-ironing until you could smell the hair burning… No lie! I really burnt a chip of hair off my head.

It was a long and painful year for me: bad break-up, college drama, looking for a full-time position as a recent college graduate and dealing with this alien hair texture on my head, but after 6 years of learning from my mistakes and getting some helpful tips along the way, I think I finally hit my stride.

PLEASE NOTE: I am NOT a natural hair stylist, or a curly hair expert. I am still a novice in this curly hair journey which is why I started this blog. I just wanted to put my curly hair journey online and start a dialogue with all the curly-haired girls out there who may have had the same struggles and share some tips and tricks along the way.

By the way, this blog is called “Curly Girl’s World” which means it isn’t just exclusive to curly hair topics. It’s about everything that happens in our world from shopping on a budget, how-to videos, current events, social issues and random posts about well… whatever comes to mind :). I welcome your feedback, comments, tips and videos to share and I hope you share some of mine along the way ;).

There are a few ground rules though…

1. We have to all respect each other. There will be no downgrading each other or hatin’ on anyone who comments, submission a post or video.

2. This website is a resource for ALL girls out there, so occasionally there might a minor on visiting the site, so please try not to post cuss words or derogatory comments.

3. I will be doing product reviews on the site, so please no personal attacks on companies, salons or products. Let’s keep in mind that everyone’s experience is different with the same product/service.

Thanks for visiting my site!
